Best Places to Eat in Maui

Local food truck on the Road to Hana

Maui is easily one of our favorite destinations in the world! We first visited Maui together when we were celebrating our 4-year dating anniversary in 2015. Returned in 2017 with both of our families – first time our families vacationed together. And our most recent visit to Maui was in December 2018 in which we celebrated my parent’s 25th wedding anniversary and our 1st year wedding anniversary! Over the years, we have discovered so many delicious restaurants in Maui and we hope that you can one day check them out for yourselves!

Gazebo Restaurant

Located in the Napili Shores Resort, this is our GO TO breakfast spot on the island – and by that, I mean we go almost, if not, every single morning while we are visiting! The restaurant is always packed so expect to make a line every time you go (unfortunately they do not take reservations). To reduce your waiting time – plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the restaurant opens to start making the line. Our favorite items on the menu: Eggs Benedict (fun fact: I am always on the search for the best Egg Benedict dish and this one is definitely worth a try!), their famous fried rice (!!!), and their white chocolate macadamia pancakes (warning: definitely share this dish or come HUNGRY). Food is amazing, the staff is fantastic, and the view is spectacular!

The Mill House

We wandered upon this restaurant a couple of years ago as we were looking for someplace to eat near the airport as we waited for our parents’ flights to arrive. The Mill House has been recently renovated and it is beautiful both inside and outside but we definitely recommend getting a table outside. The Mill House is located on a tropical plantation and the view is absolutely remarkable! It is also a popular destination for zip lining so while dining we have seen several zip liners flying through the sky. On our most recent trip to The Mill House we arrived just in time for happy hour! Happy hour is daily from 2pm to 5pm and the deals are definitely worth it! Favorite items on the menu: squash pizza, chicken bao buns, and their burger (pair it with a bikini blonde lager and some fries).

Mama’s Fish House

This world famous restaurant is definitely the one place you MUST dine at while in Maui. Although definitely considered a splurge, it is worth every single penny! If you are planning on dining in Mama’s Fish House, make sure to make a reservation online beforehand. (Tip: If you are celebrating anything special during your visit, let the restaurant know ahead of time and they usually place a special note on the table and gift you a lei! EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE). Mama’s Fish House is located on a private beach so we always make it a point to make dinner reservations shortly after sunset so that we can watch the sunset on the beach beforehand. Everything on the menu is out of this world but some of our favorites are: Mama’s Stuff Fish (stuffed with lobster and crab – if you are allergic to shellfish (like Jackie) let them know and they will modify the dish for you), Braised Short Ribs (we got this as an appetizer the last time we were there and we definitely do not regret it!), and for dessert – the Polynesian Black Pearl (the presentation for this dish is like no other).

Star Noodle

Star Noodle is a hidden gem in Lahaina known for serving fresh house made noodles and Asian specialty dishes. If planning on having dinner at Star Noodle – make sure to make a reservation ahead of time as the wait is usually an hour or longer at times. (Tip: There is usually no wait if you go as soon as the restaurant opens for lunch or after the lunch rush has passed – around 2pm). Our go to move is to order a bunch of dishes and share them family style. Some of our favorite dishes are the Scallop Shots, Steamed Pork Buns, Pad Thai, and Nuoc Cham Wings.

Other Gems

  • Cool Cat Burger – Located in Front Street in Lahaina and one of the best burger spots on the island.
  • Kimo’s – Also located in Front Street. Great location to watch the sunset!
  • Round Table Pizza – Our favorite place to order from after a long day at the beach and we do not feel like going out for dinner!
  • Safeway – Maui’s local supermarket. Great stop on the way to the beach for sandwiches and snacks and a great option for stocking up the fridge in your hotel room. Several resorts have on-site grills for guests to use to make BBQ for dinner (another great option if you prefer to stay-in). Make sure to become a member (it’s free and saves you tons of money).
Cheers – Blue Hawaiian & Mai Tai Cocktails

Let us know if you have tried any of these restaurants and any other restaurants you have visited yourself so that we can check them out the next time we are visiting Maui! Mahalo!
